The current increase in number and intensity of “mega-fires” across the globe is creating a growing threat to humans, their property, economic activity as well as to nature and biodiversity. Wildfires today cause up to 15% of annual CO2 emissions, three-digit billions of EUR in economic damages plus additional costs for disaster relief.
